IOM Cyprus conducted its first family reunification in Cyprus in coordination with Cyprus’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and partners. The joint action reunited a 7-year-old Syrian girl with her father, mother and siblings.
The girl travelled from Syria via Jordan, where IOM Amman provided her with airport assistance and an escort for the journey. She was reunited with her family at Larnaca International Airport last night (22/02).
Cyprus – IOM has opened a Country Office in Nicosia, Cyprus. It will provide support to the Cypriot authorities in a number of critical areas related to migration management and capacity building of officials on migration-related matters, including resettlement, assisted voluntary return and reintegration, and counter-trafficking.
IOM Deputy Director General Laura Thompson this week made an official visit to Nicosia to mark the occasion and discuss with the relevant authorities potential future collaboration and issues of common interest.
