Migration has undoubtedly become the megatrend of our century. The rise in importance of the topic of migration on the global agenda especially in the current context of migratory pressures to Europe has led the Government of the Republic of Cyprus to support the IOM office with its establishment and operations in the field.

The voluntary contribution to operations in the field co-funded by the Ministry of Interior and IOM consists of capacity building activities, awareness raising and outreach activities as well as office refurbishment and maintenance.

About AVRR

Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) is an indispensable part of a comprehensive approach to migration management which aims at the orderly and humane return and reintegration of migrants who are unable or unwilling to remain in host countries and wish to return voluntarily to their countries of origin.

IOM in Cyprus

Cyprus became an IOM Member-State in May 1974 at a time when a lot of Cypriots were emigrating to Australia, Canada, South Africa, the US and other European countries. IOM started its activities in Cyprus much later when it was invited to set up an office locally.
